Their undeniable chemistry made them the hottest love team in the Philippines and Primetime King and Queen.
In February 2010, Dingdong and Marian revealed in an exclusive magazine interview that they had a special relationship. They came to the relationship slowly, shared Dingdong. He was in New York with friends and Marian was in Los Angeles when they realized they had feelings for one another. It was August 2012 when Dingdong gathered his immediate family and arranged for an elaborate wedding proposal that would take place in Macau. The proposal involved a huge dome filled with butterflies, the song “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko”, a speech on “forever,” and, of course, the ring.
They arrived in Macau, the butterflies flew around them in a big dome, but the song came out from earphones connected to a cell phone, and the “forever” speech delivery was marred by jitters.
Despite the quick compromises that circumstances called for, Dingdong got a slightly delayed but resounding “Yes!” from Marian, who was overwhelmed by the unexpectedness of it all.
On August 2014, Dingdong made a second proposal again on the “MARIAN dance show”, giving Marian a Harry Winston engagement ring (very expensive luxury items with prices ranging from $5,000 to $500,000) while on his knees, looking lovingly straight at Marian who was starting to tear up.
“I offer you myself, my love today and all the days of my life. So please, Marian, will you be my wife?” Instead of saying “Yes!” At once, Marian bowed and kissed Dingdong on the lips; they hugged and kissed again.
The proposal had to be repeated because during the first one, Marian’s family was not present. But last Saturday, members of their families were present. Dingdong’s mom said that the Dantes Family has long considered Marian a member of the family, and vice-versa.
On his knees, Dingdong told Marian in the vernacular (quoted verbatim), “Sa tagal ng pagsasama natin, may isang bagay na malinaw sa akin. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Kaya ngayon, saksi ang mga mahal natin sa buhay, gusto kong ipagsigawan sa buong mundo na ikaw ang sagot sa aking mga dasal,” adding that he wanted to shout to the whole world how much he loves her and to “do it right this time,” referring to the proposal.
After eight bridal showers, a few despedida de solteras, a bachelor’s party, and wedding preparations in between– Marian and Dingdong were set to say their “I dos” on December 30, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cuabo, Quezon City, the parish where the groom-to-be was born and raised.
Security was tight at the wedding with members of the Presidential Security Group guarding parts of the Church. Fans of the couple lined up early in the morning to see not only them but also other celebrities invited to the wedding.
Marian’s gorgeous wedding gown was designed by Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco in ecru French lace studded with Swarovski crystals and reportedly costed around P2 million. The gown had an off-the-shoulder neckline with a cinched waist and a flowing ball gown skirt.
Rivera also wore a mother of pearl crown especially designed by Cinco and made in Lebanon, and a veil of scalloped tulle and lace. The Makeup was by artist Bambbi Fuentes and Hairstylist was Jay Wee.
Dingdong, wearing a formal tuxedo by Randy Ortiz, arrived on a Ducati as fans cheered for him. Marian arrived in a newly furnished car which Dingdong fixed up especially for the ceremony.
