In May 2014, Chito proposed to Neri in the most unexpected way. The Parokya ni Edgar vocalist came up with a story that Neri was invited by the band Typcast to star in their latest music video, which was shot at Angelfields Nature Sanctuary in Tagaytay City.
While Neri was having the mock shoot in the morning, Chito was busy preparing for his proposal. Night came and Neri was told that she’ll shoot one last scene.
She was supposed to walk to a big projector. When she looked up, a video started playing, starting with the phrase “Ako na siguro ang pinakasuwerteng lalaki sa buong Cavite.” After a short pause, Neri looked behind her back but didn’t notice Chito walking towards her. As the clips of their pictures play on screen, Chito hugged Neri and the two became emotional.
Then another phrase came out of the screen saying, “Dahil mapapangasawa ko ang pinakamagandang babae sa Eastwood… kung papayag siya.” Chito then kneeled in front of Neri, took her left hand and kissed it while crying. He then said, “I love you very much baby. Ang sasabihin ko lang talaga, will you marry me baby?”
Neri replied, “Of course, yes!”
Chito and Neri, who have been together since 2011, were involved in a sex video scandal last year 2014. Since then, Chito became vocal of his intentions to marry his girlfriend and Neri said she is lucky to have him in her life.
“I am so happy and blessed to have Chito in my life. I love him so much,” she said
It was Neri who first announced the news about their weekend wedding on Twitter and Instagram on December 10, 2014.
Both sealed their kiss twice in a civil ceremony and a garden wedding that proved their eternal bond for each other. They both officially tied the knot in two successive ceremonies over the weekend. While the first one was intimate and legally binding, the latter was fun-filled and surrounded by their family and close friends within and outside showbiz.
The couple legalized their union in civil ceremonies at the Vask Restaurant in Taguig City with showbiz talk show host Boy Abunda among the few witnesses on December 13, 2014. Mayor Lani Cayetano officiated the wedding.
Following their civil wedding on Saturday, December 13, Chito tied the knot with Neri in a garden wedding in Tagaytay Sunday, December 14, 2014.
The travel-themed affair (as their first date was during a road trip to Tagaytay) was witnessed by close family and friends, the ceremony took place at Angelfields Sanctuary and was officiated by comedian Ramon Bautista assisted by his radio sidekick Jojo, The Lone Survivor. The couple showcased their fun and quirky personalities during their big day by incorporating DIY decor during their reception.
Chito wore black suit over a checkered suit with no necktie while Naig walked down the aisle in a strapless, white tube, Veejay Floresca gown, as the song “Pure Imagination” played in the background and looked radiant.
Principal sponsors were Abunda, Neri’s manager Manny Valera, Mr Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, master songwriter Ryan Cayabyab, Universal Records executive Kathleen Dy-Go, filmmaker Rory Quintos, Ronald Singson, Bing Jose, Cynthia Macaranas and Renan Dalisay.
Among the celebrity guests who attended the couple’s big day were fellow newlyweds Aiza Seguerra and Liza Diño, Angel Locsin, Rico Blanco, Bela Padilla, Paolo Paraiso, Xyriel Manabat and members of Parokya ni Edgar and affiliate bands Typecast, Kamikazee and Moonstar 88.
According to one of the guests, actress Liza Diño, the ceremony was laidback and had a casual, picnic-like atmosphere. “Chito and Neri were so happy,” she told the Inquirer. “It rained during their exchange of vows, but I think that’s a blessing.”
Overall, Neri and Chito had an unforgettable day because they chose to make their wedding a reflection of their own hip and eccentric relationship. The wedding capped the couple’s romance on a happy note. While admittedly shaken by the scandal, the two remained steadfast in their love for each other as Chito repeatedly articulated his intention to marry Neri.
As the furor eventually died down, the two focused on their respective careers which remained unaffected by the controversy.
Parokya ni Edgar released their 13th album, “Bente”, to mark the band’s 20th anniversary and won an Awit Award for Best Performance by a Group for the song “Ang Parokya” in collaboration with Gloc 9 and Frank Magalona.
