Taiwanese actor Mark Chao and Mainland Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan held their wedding celebration at Le Meridien in Taipei on November 28, 2014.
Mark declared lovingly, “I’ve found the perfect woman; she’ll be number one in my life!”
Gao, born in Beijing in 1979, is considered a “National Goddess” in China for her beauty and acting skills. Zhao, five years her junior, is a Taiwanese-Canadian actor, singer and model.
Despite their five-year age gap, 35-year-old Yuanyuan and 30-year-old Mark knew they were destined for each other early in their relationship.
Yuanyuan spoke of Mark, “It’s because I feel like I met someone who shares my system of values, who is extremely similar to me.”
Frequently taking vacations together, the couple announced that they had marriage intentions in earlier 2014. In May 2014, Yuanyuan and Mark traveled to Paris to take their wedding photos. In June 2014, the couple registered their marriage in Beijing.
The couple fell in love on the set of director Chen Kaige‘s Caught in the Web in 2012. For the wedding, Chen was invited to be the couple’s witness as they exchanged wedding vows and rings.
Through tears and smiles, Mark recalled his emotions when giving his vow, “Actually, I was drawing blanks during that time. I just spoke what I was feeling and told Yuanyuan the feelings from the bottom of my heart. I told her that I would be honest with her, and I would put her along with my family as the most important people in my life.”
The bride also gushed, “Mark, our love stemmed from a sad story, as we are often separated long distance. I knew that we loved each other from separate cities, but I love you. As long as you are present, our home can be anywhere. [My friends] often said that my ideal man doesn’t exist. But you exceeded all my expectations of any man! Wherever you go, I will follow you and continue to love you, as well as love your family. I have many beautiful visions of the future. Like the movie, Up, our lives are fixed inside…. I will continue to love you during good and bad times, until the end of life.”
Bride wore a custom designed wedding embroidered gown by Chloe, for the rings and vows ceremony, and a red French lace gown and another Chloe number for the dinner. Notably, this is the first time the label has custom made a wedding dress for anyone. The two dresses reportedly took half a year’s time and 20 artisans to create – the embroidery on the actress’s long white dress alone took more than 50 work hours to complete. Gao Yuan Yuan’s veil was designed by Chinese label, Lanyu. Her jewels were sponsored by Chaumet. Chao was in a Ermenegildo Zegna suit.
The cute couple selected a simple design from Chaumet to complete their vows. The couple’s wedding band come from Chaumet’s Plume line of jewellery. While modest on the first look, the classic and sleek gold wedding band actually features a hidden diamond encrusted on the inside of the band. Definitely something for couples who love understated luxury. Gao Yuan Yuan’s bangle was something she picked out for herself this June, and also comes from Chaumet. The floral design symbolises “happiness and hope”, tying in with the occasion beautifully.
As with any other well-prepared bride, Gao Yuan Yuan prepared three pairs of shoes on her wedding day. All three designs were the product of collaboration between the actress and Chinese shoe label, Daphne
Yuanyuan, who normally has a very slim figure, appeared to be slightly fuller than usual in her mid-section.
Asked future baby plans, Mark denounced the pregnancy rumors and expressed, “Of course we have plans, but let us finish filming our projects first. We had to especially take time off for the wedding, and I have to go back to work!”
Despite the couple’s busy schedule, they planned each wedding detail with care. Since Yuanyuan was particularly fond of small animals, Mark decided on a forest backdrop with a picture of two large bunnies. Besides Yuanyuan’s love for wild creatures, Mark revealed the significant meaning behind the bunny theme – when they were dating, Mark gave Yuanyuan a book about bunnies as their first keepsake.
During the bouquet toss, Yuanyuan wanted to toss the flowers at good friend Angelababy but missed.
Yuanyuan said, “I feel sorry about Angelababy. I wanted to throw her the bouquet, but I didn’t practice and my bridesmaids were too skilled.”
More than 200 actors, actresses and celebrities from China mainland and Taiwan attended Chao and Gao’s wedding, including Carina Lau, Chang Hsiao Yen, Vicki Zhao Wei, Huang Bo, Ethan Ruan, Wang Luodan, Doze Niu Chen-Zer. Chao also arranged media center, media center host, media gifts, and provided media high tea and dinner for media from China mainland and Taiwan.
All their friends believed the two are a good match. They joke them to give birth to the most wonderful child in the world as the couple have good genes both mentally and physically.
Ever since Chao has a girlfriend, we have become relieved. Mrs Chao takes care of everything when Chao stars in a new film. She prepares things ranging from washing machines to cooking utensils, and sometimes brings Chao’s favorite take-away food to the studio, said Chao’s manager.
Honeymoon plans were put on hold as Mark and his wife were seemed to be busy filming for their projects.
