When Yvonne Lim’s first engagement dissolved a few years ago, the optimistic thespian believed she would find “The One” again. And it all came true when her boyfriend, Taiwanese businessman (and ex-B.A.D member) Alex Tien, proposed in March 2014, during her cover shoot for Nuyou. Tien’s godmother played the role of matchmaker.
While they have been friends for slightly over 10 years – they first met when Alex was on a tour to Singapore with his band, and Yvonne was just starting out in the entertainment industry – their engagement, after officially dating for six months, was a surprise to many.
It was a stark contrast to fellow local celebrity Yvonne Lim’s nuptials on September 7, 2014 when she married former Taiwanese boy band B.A.D member Alex Tien.
The star-studded wedding banquet at the Grand Ballroom, Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, had 49 tables and saw a host of celebrities like Zoe Tay, Zheng Geping, Hong Huifang, Chen Hanwei and Xiang Yun.
A 30-minute press conference was held before the event to address any questions the media might have and where Lim said: “I’ll give birth to the baby in Singapore. When the baby can start travelling, we will take the baby to Taiwan to meet Alex’s family as well. We will probably shuttle between the two countries in the future” as she was five months pregnant then.
Her gown for solemnisation was from local designer Zenchi, and the veil was from a Taiwanese bridal store, CH wedding. She wanted a long veil from day one so a simple, elegant dress complemented the veil very well.
For wedding banquet, gowns were from CH Wedding Taiwan, and the jewellery was from Bulgari. As the theme was whimsical, the first gown with its sequins looked very nice under the lights and projection, and the gown was long enough as she wanted.
Though Yvonne was five months pregnant on her wedding she was looking amazingly beautiful. The actress also shared that her wedding dress had to be altered 8cm bigger to fit her current figure.
Alex was dressed by Tailored in Solemnisation and by Vera Wang for the Wedding.
“Finally married!” They wrote their own vows, which was romantic and touching.
Later, on reception they had cocktails and a dinner party for about 500 guests. The reception decor was mostly pink (Yvonne’s favourite colour!) and cream. And, while The Ritz-Carlton team took care of the decor and music, Alex and his business partner Adrian Goh conceptualised and produced the screen projection of a beautifully landscaped garden setting that spanned four seasons.
“Alex sang Taiwanese Mandopop singer Jam Hsiao’s Marry Me to me at the dinner. He was backed by the other former members of B.A.D. It was very special because he never sang a single song to me when he was with B.A.D”, Yvonne said.
The menu included two special dishes: Grilled Pink Pepper Prawns, as suggested by Alex’s godmother Grace Yeh, and Hainanese chicken rice, which their overseas guests loved. Their favours included two pineapple tarts; one of each from Singapore and Taiwan.
Alex and Yvonne danced to a beautiful rendition of Etta James’ At Last by Hazrul Nizam, the song about a love that is written in the stars.
After spending months together in their happily married life they both welcomed their baby boy on 27 December 2014.
